Kimber Engineering was formed in 1963 in the village of South Ockendon by John Kimber. The customer base at this time was local domestic builders, the company started out manufacturing Architectural Metalwork such as Balustrades, Stair rails and Railings with the occasional contract for Structural Steel. The company became involved in the construction industry and won its first major contract in 1976 for Wimpy Construction Eastern Region. Kimber Engineering were contracted to supply and fix 36 sliding ammunition doors to an American Air base in Suffolk. This was the first large site project for the company and its success in this new market changed the direction of the business toward larger more complex projects. The company has grown in line with the increase in new and innovative building design thought out the last three decades.

The company has been run and owned by the Kimber family since its formation, the current Managing Director Geoff Kimber started working in the Petrochemical industry, when his father retired he took over the day to day running of the company. Over the past twenty years the company has successfully expanded to its present level of about 50 employees with an overall turnover of £5 million. The company’s expansion has been brought about by producing a good quality product whilst maintaining control of contract targets and costs. It is this  service and reliability that is synonymous with the name Kimber Engineering. Once a contract has been won the company inevitably picks up repeat business due to the quality of its service

The expansion of the company has led to the most recent move to the larger premise which is still within the village of south Ockendon. This has enabled the company to take on even larger projects within the construction industry. This move into the construction industry has since taken the company further a field and it now takes on major contracts around the London area.

Over the last five years the company has worked on many prestigious projects within the London area the success of these projects has moved the company up to the next level of complexity of design and production techniques. The company are heavily investing money into the front end of the business and employee highly skilled Design Engineers who work on state of the art CAD packages. The use of these packages maximizes drawing accuracy and speed and quality this allows us to communicate with our customers to help them design, construct and build their visions within cost and time constraints

The move to larger premises has allowed more efficient production techniques and the additional space has allowed the company to produce working samples on many major projects. This has proved to be invaluable on many major projects allowing customers to see their vision before installation occurs this helps with architectural decisions and minimizes the learning curve for installation and production.
